Life in the Cambridge Area
Harvard is located in Cambridge, a city known for its multicultural way of life. The city is teeming with restaurants, parks, cafes and bookstores. Nestled between two major academic institutions – Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – Cambridge boasts its own intellectual life.
Just a bridge away from Cambridge, on the other side of the Charles River, is Boston — a city steeped in the beginnings of the nation's development from the Pilgrims through the Revolutionary War.
Boston's politics are immersed in history and passion. In much the same way, Bostonians are just as passionate about their sports as they are their politics. From Fenway Park to the gold-domed State House, there is always plenty of action.
From Cambridge, there is easy access to everything New England has to offer, from the ocean to the mountains. Nieman Fellows and their families have taken advantage of whale watches, lobster bakes, state fairs, boating, cross-country and downhill skiing as well as New England's famed fall foliage season.
