For the community journalist, local news is more than just the latest new thing. It’s a job. This
conference was built with the goal of aiding neighborhood, ethnic and cultural newspapers seeking
to excel in local news coverage.
Participants include Ben Montgomery, St. Petersburg Times; Connie Hale, author of Wired Style
and Sin and Syntax, and Director of the Nieman Program on Narrative Journalism; Mary Newsom,
The Charlotte Observer; and many other special guests and Nieman Fellows.
Workshop topics include conducting investigative reports on a dime, writing short narratives
on deadline, increasing readership, and much more.
