Learn more about Christopher J. Georges

The Christopher J. Georges Fellowship Fund supports in-depth reporting projects on issues of enduring social value and the human impact of public policy.

The fund also sponsors the annual Georges Collegiate Weekend for college journalists, which is co-hosted by the Nieman Foundation and students from The Harvard Crimson.

The fund is administered by the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University. It encourages and promotes the type of journalism Georges loved best: feature stories that do not simply examine policy making and reform, but explore from a human perspective both the intended and unintended consequences of these policies on the people who are affected by them.

Background

Christopher J. Georges, an honors graduate of Harvard College and a Wall Street Journal reporter, died in 1998 at age 33 from complications related to lupus. Family, friends and colleagues established the Christopher J. Georges Fellowship Fund to memorialize his commitment to in-depth reporting on issues of enduring social value and stories that document the human impact of public policy.
