    Sam Fulwood a Senior Fellow at Center for American Progress

    Sam Fulwood, a 1994 Nieman Fellow and Nieman Foundation Advisory Board member, is now a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, where he analyzes the influence of national politics and domestic policies on communities of color across the United States. The Center for American Progress is a think tank dedicated to improving the lives of Americans through ideas and action. Read more »

    David Hawpe Retires as Courier-Journal Editorial Director

    David Hawpe, an unrepentant liberal who spent much of his professional life railing against what he considered to be the coal industry's excesses and as an advocate for the underprivileged, especially in his beloved Appalachia, is retiring after 40 years with The (Louisville, Ky.)     George de Lama to Head IDB Communications Office

    George de Lama, a 1992 Nieman Fellow and former managing editor of the Chicago Tribune, has been appointed External Relations Advisor for the Washington, D.C.-based Inter-American Development Bank. de Lama will head the Bank’s strategic communications, congressional relations and cultural affairs office.     Guy Raz Named Weekend Host of NPR's All Things Considered

    Guy Raz, a 2009 Nieman Fellow, has been named weekend host of NPR News’ signature afternoon newsmagazine All Things Considered. Raz will step into the role fulltime this weekend, after guest-hosting for the past several months. Previously, Raz was NPR’s defense correspondent.

    Paul Hemphill, Chronicler of the South, Dies at 73

    Paul Hemphill, who brought a lean journalistic style and a sharp ear for dialogue to essays and novels devoted to the blue-collar South of stock-car racing, football, country music, evangelists and wayward souls, died Saturday morning in Atlanta. He was a 1969 Nieman Fellow.

    Robert Neilsen, Former Toronto Star Journalist, Dies at 87

    In his 33 years with the Toronto Star, Robert Nielsen's roles ranged from foreign correspondent to editorial page editor and acting editor-in-chief. He died July 10 after suffering an aneurysm. Nielsen was a 1953 Nieman Fellow. Read more at thestar.com »
