This is a skillful, finely told story about a woman coping with her mother's demise.
We like the short, efficient sentences in this piece, the exquisite attention to telling detail: the mother's purse, each item within it telling us much. We admire the portrayal of character and subtext through such telling detail. This piece is a model for portraying personal emotion with poise and detachment -- through the showing of meaningful action and detail.
