This is an unusually insightful and intimate portrait of an evangelical activist.
In this profile of Sadie Fields, a powerful figure in Georgia politics, Hiskey provides a more three-dimensional picture than we often see of controversial political figures. When her editor, Jan Winburn, sent us the story, she wrote: "It is rare, I think, that we attempt -- and succeed -- at writing about members of the religious right in-depth. I felt that this story succeeded in not only getting us inside the head and life of a religious conservative, but that it illuminated the larger theme of the rise of the right in this country."
