Vicki Smith |
Vicki Smith has been a correspondent for The Associated Press in Morgantown, W.Va., since 1998. She is a general assignment reporter and feature writer, with beats that include the steel and gambling industries. She was the AP's lead reporter on the Sago Mine disaster in West Virginia earlier this year and worked in Mississippi for the first month after Hurricane Katrina last year. Smith, 40, joined the AP in Charleston, W.Va., in September 1996. She also spent nine years with The Press of Atlantic City (N.J.), where she worked from 1987 to 1996 as a copy editor, staff writer, assistant city editor and Cape May County bureau chief.
She's a journalism graduate of West Virginia University in Morgantown, where she frequently guest-lectures writing, reporting and public relations classes.
