    Charlotte Paper Names Stodghill Business Columnist
    Ron Stodghill, a former business journalist with BusinessWeek, Time and The New York Times, has been named a business columnist for the Charlotte Observer. Stodghill is a 2001 Nieman Fellow. Read more »
    Former Gainesville Times editor Bob Campbell dies
    Former longtime Gainesville Times editor Bob Campbell died Sunday, Nov. 8. Campbell—a Navy veteran of World War II and a 1957 Nieman Fellow—worked at The Times from 1971 to 1986, spending the last two years as editorial page editor. He was 88. Read more »

    Slain Sri Lankan Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge and Afghan Journalists to Receive Louis M. Lyons Award
    The Nieman Foundation will present the Louis M. Lyons Award for Conscience and Integrity in Journalism to slain Sri Lankan newspaper editor Lasantha Wickrematunge and the journalists of Afghanistan on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. Nieman Fellows in the Class of 2010 chose the two recipients in recognition of the terrible risks many journalists around the world face in pursuit of their calling. The journalists of Afghanistan are being recognized for their bravery in delivering the news from one of the most dangerous reporting environments in the world. Read more »

    2009 Georges Conference on College Journalism
    More than 70 students from 14 college newspapers gathered at the Nieman Foundation April 3-4, 2009 for the sixth annual event, which offered talks by leading journalists, training sessions and networking opportunities. The weekend event is sponsored by the Christopher J. Georges Fund, which the Nieman Foundation administers, and is co-hosted by the foundation and The Harvard Crimson.

    U.S. Fellowships, including the Reynolds Fellowship in Community Journalism and the Arts & Culture Reporting Fellowship: Applications must be postmarked on or before Jan. 31, 2010.

    International Fellowships: Applications must be postmarked on or before Dec. 15, 2009.
