AFTERMATH: Journalism, storytelling, and the impact of violence and tragedy
- Feb 26-28, 2009 - Renowned writers, editors, reporters, photographers, filmmakers, trauma researchers, poets, novelists, historians and others convened at the Nieman Foundatino to explore how journalists report the emotional impact of violence, death and disaster on people and their lives.

March 5, 2009 - Staff writers Jim Schaefer and M.L. Elrick and their colleagues at the Detroit Free Press are winners of the 2008 Worth Bingham Prize for Investigative Journalism for their comprehensive series “A Mayor in Crisis.”
2009 Georges Conference on College Journalism
More than 70 students from 14 college newspapers gathered at the Nieman Foundation this weekend for the sixth annual event, which offered talks by leading journalists, training sessions and networking opportunities.

Saturday evening, Nov. 8, 2008 - Ellen Fitzpatrick's key note speech, "The Press and the Presidency" followed an evening reception and sit-down dinner. The evening ended with the panel discussion, "Press and Politics in the New Administration."

Saturday afternoon, Nov. 8, 2008 - After lunch, Leonard Downie, Jr. gave a key note speech titled "The Moral and Ethical Obligations of Journalism in a Digital World." The panel discussion "Voices from the New World of Journalism" followed.

Saturday morning, Nov. 8, 2008 - After enjoying a continental breakfast, convocation attendees were treated to a 70th anniversary video, produced by Lorie Conway (NF'94), followed by the panel discussion, "Preserving Nieman Values Through the Years."
