Edited by Mark Kramer, director of the Nieman Foundation's narrative journalism program, and Wendy Call, a freelance writer and editor based in Seattle, Washington, the 90 selections bring to the book's pages the voices of narrative practitioners who have offered their experiences and insights to thousands of journalists who have participated in annual Nieman Narrative conferences.

In the preface, Kramer and Call write that "'Telling True Stories' offers a step-by-step guide that can help you at every stage, from idea to publication .... [It] offers nonfiction storytellers a sourcebook that helps name and describe many aspects of this difficult but rewarding work." —Melissa Ludtke
